Abstract
Participants first read a story sentence by sentence for comprehension, and then categorized each sentence based on whether the sentence generated a reminding, an image, an emotion, suspense, or none of these. Reminding and imagery sentences were then rated for intensity. The results showed that perspective taking increased with the number and intensity of the remindings. Our interpretation is that perspective taking depends on using personal knowledge and experience to understand a character.
